Description

IC5070 - The Pelican Nebula, upside-down - although there is no ‘up’ or ‘down’ in space. I thought the inverted portrait perspective was more striking given my field of view. Emission nebula in the tail of the Constellation Cygnus the Swan. About 2,000 LY away.

Of interest are the wispy fingers of bright nebulosity along the ridge in bottom-left quarter. Known as HH or Herbig-Haro objects - they are attributed to high speed jets of gas given off by newly formed stars colliding with interstellar gas.

The OIII signal seems to overlay and be backlit by the strongest emission areas. I was unsure if this was real or a processing artifact. A search of other Astrobin images show this as well.
